Rainbow Drink 🍹
A magical, color-changing refreshment that’s as stunning as it is delicious!
🛒 Ingredients
– 4 fresh lemons
– 1 tbsp dried mallow flowers
– ½ cup sugar
– 1 tbsp basil seeds
– ½ cup water
– Ice cubes, mint leaves, lemon wedges (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the purple water:
Place the dried mallow flowers in water and let them steep for a few minutes until the water turns purple. Strain the liquid and set it aside.
2. Make the syrup:
In a saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves completely. Let it simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened, then remove from heat.
(Note: The purple mallow water is not added to the saucepan.)
3. Prepare the glasses:
Add some ice cubes to a glass. First pour in a little of the simple syrup from the saucepan.
Then gently pour some of the purple mallow water on top so the layers stay separated.
Garnish with mint leaves and a lemon wedge.
4. Create the color change:
Repeat the same steps for a second glass, but this time add 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. Because of the acidity, the purple mallow water will turn pink, giving the drink a rainbow effect.
5. Add basil seeds:
Soak the basil seeds in a little water until they swell and form a gel-like coating. Add them to each glass before serving.
Tip 🍃
You can pour the strained purple mallow water into ice cube trays and freeze it. These purple ice cubes will both chill the drink and gradually release beautiful color into your glass.
