Homemade burger bun

Ingredients

Buns:

250g All-Purpose Flour

125 to 150 ml (170g to 227g) lukewarm water

 18ml  vegetable oil

1 small egg

10g granulated sugar

1 teaspoons table salt

5g instant yeast

Butter Glaze:

3 tablespoons (43g) melted butter, divided

Seed Topping (optional):

1 large egg white, whisked with 2 tablespoons cold water*

• Sesame seeds or your choice of seeds

Instructions for Making Hamburger

1. Prepare the Dough: Combine all the dough ingredients—flour, lukewarm water, butter, egg, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix and knead the ingredients by hand, using a mixer, or in a bread machine until you achieve a soft, smooth dough.

2. First Rise: Cover the dough and let it rise until it has nearly doubled in size, which will take about 1 to 2 hours.

3. Shape the Buns: Once risen, gently deflate the dough and divide it into six equal pieces (approximately 100g each). For smaller or larger buns, adjust the portion sizes as needed. Shape each piece into a ball.

4. Flatten the Buns: Use the palm of your hand to flatten each dough ball until it is about 3 inches in diameter.

5. Second Rise: Arrange the buns on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover them and allow them to rise until noticeably puffy, which should take about an hour. Preheat your oven to 375°F towards the end of this rising time.

6. Prepare for Baking: Brush the tops of the buns with half of the melted butter. If you want to make seeded buns, brush the egg white mixed with water over the melted butter to help the seeds stick. Sprinkle your choice of seeds on top.

7. Bake the Buns: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Once baked, remove the buns from the oven and brush them with the remaining melted butter for a glossy, buttery crust. Be careful when applying butter to seeded buns to avoid displacing the seeds.

8. Cool and Serve: Allow the buns to cool on a rack before slicing them in half horizontally. They make an excellent base for burgers (both beef and plant-based) or any favorite sandwich fillings.

Storage Tips:

• Store any leftover buns wrapped well at room temperature for several days.

• For longer storage, freeze the buns.
